Micah Mickles is a St. Louis-based interdisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses photography, printmaking, drawing, and assemblage-as-memorial. His work explores storytelling, memory, and the craft traditions of the African diaspora and the American South, reconstructing family histories while preserving collective cultural practices. Through found materials and deep engagement with traditional crafts, Mickles creates transformative investigations of grief, introspection, and healing that evoke both resilience and remembrance.
His practice seamlessly weaves ancient and contemporary elements, creating bridges between personal narrative and communal experience. Mickles holds an MFA from Washington University (2024) and a BFA from the University of Missouri–St. Louis (2022). He has exhibited nationally at venues including STNDRD Exhibitions and the Mildred Lane Kemper Museum. His work has earned recognition through awards such as the Jacqueline Ferer Stern Scholarship and the prestigious Counterpublic Fellowship.
